Christopher Nolan's mythic action epic, The Odyssey, is a film audiences have been anticipating ever since it was revealed. It easily ranks as one of the most awaited films of 2026. In a festive surprise, a trailer has finally arrived, even if it's compromised due to the platform's low-quality encoding—maybe illustrating the director's choice to restrict the trailer solely for theatrical audiences.
The Initial Look of the Stellar Ensemble
This first look showcases Matt Damon portraying the king of Ithaca. We also see Tom Holland playing the son and Anne Hathaway depicting the loyal wife. In a poignant moment, Penelope asks Odysseus to promise his safe homecoming, only for him to respond by asking what occurs should he fail. Furthermore, the preview provides a quick, obscured look at Polyphemus the Cyclops, whose flock are taken by the hero and his men on their treacherous voyage.
Adapted from a foundational pillar in classic storytelling, The Odyssey follows the epic journey undertaken by the famed ruler. Following his victory in the Trojan War, as told in Homer's Iliad, Odysseus endures a long and perilous road home.
Legendary Obstacles with an All-Star Cast
On his travels, Odysseus confronts numerous obstacles and legendary creatures. These include the witch-goddess Circe, who transforms men into swine, and the deceptive Sirens. Regardless of these ordeals, his sworn oath is to overcome anything to reunite with Penelope and Telemachus in Ithaca.
The adaptation's cast is remarkably star-studded. Joining Damon, Holland, and Hathaway is Charlize Theron as the cunning Circe, alongside Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal.
A Story Repeatedly Told
The classic poem has inspired many reinterpretations throughout history. Examples include contemporary versions and a late-90s dance production. There has even been a stage musical adaptation titled Epic: The Musical, released in the form of a nine-album collection.
A full-length preview was long awaited following the project's reveal and a short teaser clip which was initially shown only on the big screen. That teaser subsequently found its way online shortly thereafter.
