Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in P17 as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he spun at corner four during the early running.
The Japanese slid over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn before the final bend on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th place, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
